The Marin Conservation League (MCL) invites you to a public workshop about ranching and elk management on the Point Reyes National Seashore. MCL has participated actively in the National Park Services planning process for the continuation of family ranches and dairy farms on the Seashore in conjunction with management of wild Tule elk. This included the hosting of the workshop series Ranching in the Park in 2017 available as videos on our website
On August 8, 2019, the Seashore released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for this planning process, providing detailed ranch management measures and elk population goals for consideration during a public review period (comment deadline is September 23, 2019). This next step in the Seashore’s planning process is an important opportunity to understand the National Park Service’s preferred alternative for managing the environmental and cultural resources recognized and valued in the formation of the Seashore.
Join MCL, September 5, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Lagunitas School in San Geronimo, to learn about the EIS structure and content. We will provide background on the significance of this step in environmental review and planning through the National Environmental Policy Act, including resources and tips for developing and submitting comments during the review period. This also will be an opportunity to explore and discuss specific questions and details of the National Park Service’s analysis and proposed plans.
Walk-ins are welcome and we also encourage advance registration for Ranching in the Park - The Next Step .
