Wetlands Protection: The Significance of the US Supreme Court’s Recent Decision
Jim will discuss the significance of the Supreme Court’s recent decision in the case Sackett v EPA (5/25/2023). The decision will upend 50 years of permitting requirements for the proposed fill of wetlands by significantly reducing the reach of the federal government’s regulatory jurisdiction over wetlands and other waters. Implications for wetlands management in California and beyond will also be discussed.

| Featured Speaker: Jim Burroughs is a retired attorney who specialized in environmental law with a particular focus on aquatic and species regulatory programs. In addition to years of private practice, Jim previously served as the Deputy Secretary and General Counsel for the California Resources Agency and served on the Board of Directors for the California Coastal Conservancy, Commissioner on the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, and ex officio Commissioner on the California Coastal Commission. |
